1. RICHARD LEE---resided in Virginia in 1642; died 1663 or 1664; owned 16,000+ acres of land; prominent.

2. son: RICHARD LEE---born 1647; died March 12, 1714; married Letitia Corbin, a well-born of prominent family; gentleman; honest and unexceptionable loyalty; educated Oxford; did not improve property, but spent time writing.

3. HENRY LEE---fifth son of Richard, the scholar, 1691-1747; married Mary Bland, daughter of Colonel Richard Bland.

4. son: HENRY LEE---1729-1787; Robert's grandfather; refer to as Henry the second (for convenience); married Lucy Grymes; raised tobacco; lieutenant, burgess, member or revelutionary conventions, justice of peace of Prince William County.

5. son: HENRY LEE---(Harry, "Light Horse Harry"); Robert's father; 1758-1818; married Ann Hill Carter; refer to as the third.

6. ROBERT EDWARD LEE---January 19, 1807--October 12, 1870

Five generations of wise marriages increased their wealth and standing in Virginia. George Washing once remarked, "I know of no country that can produce a family all distinguished as clever men, as our Lees." (not verified)
